Steps to Knowing our True Identity in Christ

These steps come from 2 Peter verses 5-7.  We start by learning that we need to add to our faith, goodness.  This is when we realize that through our faith that Christ died for us because he loves us, brings us to see how good he is.  The next thing it says to add to goodness, knowledge.  Well as we learn more about Jesus and what he can do in other’s lives we want to see how he will influence ours, so we go to the bible to gain that knowledge.  Then we must add self- control to our knowledge.  Here is where we take a stand against our old self, but we do it as a new creation in Christ, which means we are not alone and not designed to carry burdens or take on attacks alone. We have the Holy Spirit and with Him a hedge of protection when it is time for us to use our self-control. We then must add perseverance to our self-control.  This is when we experience the relentless attacks of the enemy, our flesh and our mind.  We must through the first steps above persevere through this to then reach our next step which is to add godliness to our perseverance.  You see once we experience the power of the Holy Spirit and the Grace of Jesus Christ, we can then begin to share our victory over those things that kept us in bondage.  Jesus begins to shine through us so others can see the saving light.  God then says to perseverance we must add brotherly love.  This means we must soften our hearts to those who are broken around us.  Do not just live in a world where it is all about you, rather give and give some more to those that need.  Finally, he says to brotherly kindness add Love.  Here is the part of the process of drawing nearer to God, that we truly begin to live as Christ did for others.  Wholeheartedly pouring into the lives of people God puts in your life, with no hesitation because you could possibly get hurt.  Jesus says follow these steps and honestly, you won’t have time for sin, because your life will be focused on God and like it says in James 4:7 ” Submit yourselves then to God. Resist the Devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He ( Jesus) will draw near to you!” Selah!

knowing our Calling

Christ’s view of us is we are his Beloved.  We must stay rooted in the word of God so as not to be tricked by false teachings.  More so, to remind our selves that Christ has given us EVERYTHING we need(2 Peter 1:3.)  It is through His promises to us that we can conquer every corruption and evil desire that is in this World.  I have learned that Christ sees me as blameless and pure in His eyes and he tells me in verse 10 of 2 Peter that if I live according to his divine nature and follow him I shall never fall.  I am serious read it your self, the bible says the word never.  God says that if we believe in ourselves the way Christ sees us and loves us, we have the ability through His love to never stumble or fall.  This is very comforting to know that our part is to believe the truth that has already been given to us.  This promise is for us to have set in our hearts, minds and souls that he is there for us and that we are His priests of the Most High.  When we put others before us, for His glory, we do not waste time on the temptations and lies the enemy tries to place before us.  We have to look at the cross and remember that was for us, through that love we need to love others, including those that try and persecute and hurt us. Identity Problem!

The other night I had a chance to sit with a true prayer warrior and daughter of Christ.  The wisdom that I gained in those moments were set by God’s timing for me to hear and receive.  She let me know, through, our conversation that I did not have a sin problem, rather I had an Identity problem.  You see as a believer, we are called to God’s word and in God’s word we are constantly lifted up.  Jesus is continuous in his praise of those who have chosen him and in the ability of his children.  I heard it said best like this, Jesus wants to take our natural and give us his Super natural.  As he watches us and protects us, he sees us as blameless because the truth is the cross washed us clean.  We are the ones who stay in these fights with ourselves and the problem when your battling sin is your focus stays on you.  You are not able to truly accept the man or woman of God you already are.  We do not become Saints, we already are.  You see when Christ paid the price for us that was for our eternal life that he paid that price, so when we have these parts of our life that continue to pull at us and trick us, its because we are not standing firm in the place that Christ has put us.  We are at his right hand and even scriptures says we will do greater things than him.  He created us and molded us to be the light of the World.  Now, obviously we have the Holy Spirit to guide us, but our Identity is not the broken man or woman we see in the mirror and we must stop looking at that brokenness.  God knows we were broken but he says very clearly in Ephesians 2: ” As for you, you WERE dead in your transgressions and sins.” He let’s us know right there using the word “were” that we are no longer there no he continues in verse 4 and says: “But because of His great Love, God, who is rich in mercy, made us ALIVE with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by Grace you have been saved.”  My friends how amazing is that for us.  God’s truth is in the bible and the bible says we have been made ALIVE in Christ, so do not waste anymore time looking at the person you think you are, rather believe that you are the blameless, adored, pure, new creation son or daughter of the One true God.  Please know that this truth is something that is new for me, because though I have known this about God, I did not believe it fully for myself, until now.  I will no longer allow my time to be snatched away by lies.  I am going to let God’s embrace on my life be what guides me through this journey.  It is a new feeling and very hard to do at first, but the more I read scripture, the more I realize, that he wants us to live our lives to the full.  When we have him first, living that full life is a full time desire for the lost and the broken to see their true identity in Christ.
