It Didn’t Go My Way, So I quit?

When you read that title, the question mark is there on purpose. This is the attitude I come across the most these days with young people. The reason they have so many interests or are involved in so many different “projects” is because they quit when something doesn’t go the way they feel it should, THEIR WAY! This attitude can be subtle and can sneak up on you even after many years. As a coach it is the number one issue we deal with and because of that the desire to be a apart of something big than themselves is lost. Our passions grew as we became more and more involved in the activities that were placed before us as kids. There are some things that we like a little and some things we like a lot and somethings we do not want anything to do with. However, the youth of today or only subjected to what they want to deal with on the screen. As silly as this may sound, these young people can create the perfect character and the perfect team. They learn to be sore losers early in life because their perfect character or team Never Loses!

No one can go through life and know how to win or be a champion without losing. Jesus even gave us the ultimate example of this but being put on the cross and initially losing to death only then to overcome it for all of us. I would consider it a loss for Jesus in the beating and torture that he took. Yet, He chose that for us, YES He chose to be our champion. Many people today do not know how to lose or to understand it more like Nelson Mandela says ” I do not lose, I learn!” That is key in the lives of us as men and women and as Christians. Once you have been corrected of your mistake, do not make that same mistake again!! Our generations that are up and coming do not want to learn, instead the continue to do it they way they want, even after several corrections and they even know the outcome will still be failure. I truly do not understand it and pray daily for the future and how can we get the youth of today to turn from this selfish entitled attitude to one of humbleness and service.

I can see parts fo my life where the attitude of this title hits home. I know every time I get into a losing weight battle I catch my self with their same attitude. It catches up to me in my exercise routine and my study time. It makes sense because these are things that require discipline and commitment and so we choose the easy way out and blame our feelings or a situation. So as I write God says this is a result of many souls who have chosen to not surrender to him, but it is ok because it’s never too late as long as there is breath coming out of you. When I look at the youth that are close to me and I see the attitude of wanting to quit, God nudges me and lets me know He needs to be involved. These are moments that human nature cannot battle alone. We need divine intervention in order for this attitude to change. It is deeply rooted in them and God can change that, he can dig up the roots and replant them into soil that is nourishing and that teaches humbleness and gratitude.

Check in your own lives of any situation or thoughts that you carry this attitude with. If something doesn’t go your way, learn, correct and apply it to your life. Make that change every moment that it occurs and allow the correction and hard work and discipline reward you as you are rewarded by Christ.

One Love, One King, All Christ
