For Granted

I cant believe how much for granted I take our Lord and Savior.  I have been reading quite a lot lately and when I hear the passion of the Jesus they talk about, I wonder.  Why is it that I cannot let myself fall in love that way with him.  I hear of people who pray on their knees, until the point of scarring.  They kneel and pray for their loved ones, for those that are lost and for the world.  I sit back and I worry about things that really are not that important, but get frustrated if a prayer isn’t answered right away.  We take God for granted so many times and never slow down to think He has whats best for us in mind.  You know what friends there are going to be hard things we struggle with and for the most part they are not going to disappear from your life.  It’s not that the prayers don’t work or that God doesn’t care, it is because there is a bigger purpose for your life.  That struggle is something you can bare and you need to allow God to carry the burden of it.  Just because someone carries something for you doesn’t mean you still cant see it.  Our struggles are apart of our brokenness, but they are also the reason for our redemption.  Jesus is more than a savior, He is the great re-constructor of our faith and our alter.  We have to stop bringing God to our struggles and hope that something will change.  When I place myself in a safe place and hope my struggles won’t find me there because I am busy or “hiding” guess what, they will find you.  It is not until we stop taking our God for granted and take our struggles, hearts and lives to Him that we are in His freedom.  I have learned that this life is hard and not fair, but  I have also learned that my hope is in Heaven and in a God who wants to consume me with all of His love and grace.  When the tough times come, we will respond like we are supposed to, however, in our grieving and repentance there will be something that others will want.  Please be warned that when you choose to draw nearer and more intimate with Jesus, the heat is turned ON!!!  Stop taking Him for granted, stop just praying when you go to bed or in your car.  Treat Him like you treat someone you are in love with and create time for Him.  Get on your knees and pray, pray in submission and in awe of a Mighty and Powerful and Loving God.  Allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with the gift of God’s mercy and grace and let your life be His.  We are spoiled in America and we limit Jesus with are entangled thoughts and actions.  When you see Jesus outside of America, you see the Jesus that was in the Bible, People who have nothing seem to have everything because they allow God to completely fill them and change their lives.  They may live in a dump, but smile everyday, even knowing they may not eat because they trust and know in a God that loves them and steps into their darkness.  Even in the face of evil, they allow God to love them and protect them.  They make commitments and vows of Faith and guess what they come true.  Its not because they know Jesus better than we do, it is because they do not take Him for Granted! The Flesh

As Christians we spend most of our time in this battle against sin.  We are kind of always looking over our shoulder of where it might attack us.  The truth is with Christ we shouldn’t walk on egg shells.  We shouldn’t be checking every corner to see when it will happen again.  IF we have surrendered our life to Christ then we must simply take the Holy Spirits advice when temptation comes.  This can be a very successful way of living, listening to the Holy Spirit.  It’s what we are told to do through out the bible.  We are told to be patient and quiet and listen for the Lord’s still and quiet voice.  However, there is something that we do take for granted quite often.  That is our flesh and the type of appetite it has.  You see whatever things we have feed our flesh it comes to remember those tastes.  These cravings are stronger based on how long you have struggled with sins.  Now typically, sins of the flesh deal with lust and this is an issue that doesn’t just affect men.  The flesh wants what it remembers and once you begin to starve it and spend time with God, it becomes violent.  Imagine an animal that is shackled and starving and the food needed to satisfy it’s hunger is a few feet away.  It will do anything to get to that food, including die just to sink its teeth in and savor what it has been missing.  This is our flesh, what it desires is only a few thoughts away and it will fight to the death to get that taste.  When we pray we must pray against the flesh, we must ask the Holy Spirit to drown its hunger and all consuming desire.  Jesus wants us to succeed in this life and live to the full, but He does know our struggles and He also knows its not just a battle against sin.  We have a very cunning adversary in Satan.  However, when our relationship with Jesus become intimate we only then realize that we play a big part in our own struggles.  We must take responsibility for our actions and thoughts.  As the flesh screams out to be fed we must surrender ourselves completely to Christ, no matter how we feel.  The flesh has no intentions of holding back, it will get what it wants if you are not careful to allow the Holy Spirit to harness that monster.  Through Christ and only through Him are we able to see the immense power of our One True God.  As we are at war with our sins, hearts, flesh and other spiritual enemies that want to consume us, what resides in our heart is a King, Savior, Redeemer and Friend that trumps them all.  The power of God is unmatched. We must be deliberate!

I am learning daily, and moment by moment, to follow Christ takes being deliberate.  You truly have to put people first so that you do not put yourself first.  Everytime we think about ourselves we open doors for temptation to come.  We must allow God to take care of us as we put others first.  This is not easy because our sinful desires will turn up the heat as they are being starved. Therefore, we must know, even if we stumble, they are losing and releasing the stronghold. I love being deliberate and refuse to allow my thoughts and flesh to guide me.  If they catch me in a moment of weakness I will rely on the Lord to provide a way out.  In these days I not only want to see the way out but I want to be deliberate in running to that refuge the Holy Spirit provides.  My heart is Gods and my thoughts and habits are changing.  I feel the war brewing inside me as the enemy of the Lord is being starved.  Consume me O Lord, allow my thoughts to be yours, I know you love me and I am your Beloved! SELAH!
