Its almost time

I am going on my first mission trip.  I am really excited to see what God is going to do.  I am going to Nicaragua and I am going to be working with kids who basically live in a dump.  Wow, all I can think about is that I am going to a nation where they know real faith.  Their lives are truly lived moment by moment.  They do not own changes of clothes and most of the time they probably do not even know when they are going to get their next meal.  The one thing they do know is Jesus loves them.  It is much like the beautiful people of Haiti as they sat with nothing and they were hurt, dying and unable to move, but when one man started to sing about Jesus the entire town started to sing.  Even in their darkness they found light, they found Christ.  I know the same can happen in Nicaragua.  They live their lives in a dump, but for the moments we get to spend with them, will be Holy.  We will get to pour into them and I am mostly excited that they will get to pour into us.  I am wanting to see what true faith looks like, what it really means to live with nothing and have everything.  I know that our God is a big God and He will bring healing, joy and mercy on all of us as we chase after him next week.  My decree to myself is to surrender to the God I know and love, to the Lord that will show me His face next week and that I will realize that nothing in this world can match what He offers. Amen!

The beauty of a smile

I work with kids that have several types of special needs. I work with students who have down syndrome to students with traumatic brain injury.  In my six years they have transformed me into the man I am today.  There is no smile more beautiful, even when it is sometimes a mischievous one, :). I cannot tell you how many times God has used my students to make me smile.  They have no problem with letting you know how excited they are to see you, but it always comes back to their smile.  God is so amazing in how he creates us, that even in this imperfect world, where bad things can happen, there still He shines through the smile of one of those who are less fortunate.  When God wants to show you His face it is never far.  God smiled at me tonight at dinner, my friends daughter, who has down syndrome, was so awesome and her smile took me to that same place, letting me know how much God loves us.  Perfection is in the eye of the beholder and I can tell you in God’s eyes all of His children are perfect.  I am thankful for a God who shows me His face everyday by the smiles I get from all the kids I work with and come across in my everyday life.  Hallelujah, for the beauty of a smile.. SELAH!

we can’t give up

I know my heart and I know how I long to be the man of God that Jesus wants me to be.  I see it in my everyday life, from the thoughts that pass through to the people in my life.  This time will be for real, this will not be a time where I sabotage the good that I am doing.  I am well -known to myself for drawing near to Christ and right when things seems to fall into place with Him, I run, well I FLEE.  I am tired of running, and I am ready to face this life with Christ first.  I see all of my faults and rarely any of my strengths, even though, Jesus sends many people across my path to encourage me.  The deal is that we are lied to for so long that the lies of the bottom feeder(Satan) become true.  Our lives become so in-twined with the do’s and don’t’s of life that we forget where we started and where we are hoping to end.  The choice is not to give up and there will be no giving up, because as cliche as it may be, Our King did not give up on us when he had the choice on the cross, and as real as the day is 24 hours, I will not give up.  There is no going back to living life in secret and with lies.  I will live life with Christ first and pray for His protection over me as I walk into the fire everyday.  The heart of a true champion is not the heart that always wins, NO, it is the heart that continually chooses to heal after every time it is broken.  The heart that decides to get back up and face life again and love again, because and only because Jesus says so.  Amen and Amen!
