What a world.. Day 2 Nicaragua
We are heading to La Chureca, this shanty town is placed in the city dump, literally. As we were driving down the road we stopped to turn left. When we made that left all you could see was the darkness and heaviness Satan had over this place. It was the deepest kind of poverty I have ever seen. The street is filled with trash and little children two and three years old running around in it. Everyone is covered in dirt and sutt from the garbage burning and this was just the entrance. As we headed to the school we entered La Chureca. There are these hundreds of shacks made of galvenize just put to together and thats it. This place has brought a true meaning of poverty to my eyes. Every shack has many people living in it and covered in dirt and garbage. Yes, my friends, we live in a world where a government and a society will allow 3,000 plus men, women, children and babies to live in a city dump. Jesus is all we have to offer and He is more than enough because on the flip side of today, when we arrived at the school, the kids ran out at recess and had much love to give and to get. They were smiling and running and horse playing with the whole team. We then had an opportunity to take them to the volcano site. Well here is the deal, we took the first graders and this was their first field trip ever. Now I have had students who I have taught in the past and they have never left Miami, but several of these first graders have never even left the dump. Here is a city of 1,350,000 people and there are malls and movie theaters that are minutes away and these kids have not seen it, but they have been exposed to molestation, rape, prostitution and drugs. They know abuse all to well. As His Beloved, we must allow them to feel Gods grace and one thing that is tearing away at my heart is understanding and finally living for Christ because my life truly is not about me. Tell u about day 3 tomorrow.. Selah!
