Aunt Jo

My Aunt Jo passed away on Friday.  She was 89 years old and I only knew here through the birthdays cards she would send to me every year.  She did not miss one birthday of mine and she would always speak of God.  This past birthday she sent me a card and I had it on my heart to call her.  Well some days had passed and I saw the card sitting on the table I opened it and read it.  I looked at the time and saw that it was rather late to try and call and so I decided to write her a letter.  It was a very bitter sweet emotion to find out that only 2 days later she had passed away.  It was a lesson learned that when God places someone on your heart, call them and talk to them.  I know that she is in Heaven and not suffering anymore, but it was the busyness of my everyday life that caused me to miss my opportunity to speak with her.  She was an incredible woman of faith and I am glad that I did get a chance to speak with her a few years ago when my mom passed.  I also had a chance to write her a letter and share my love and thoughts with her during that time.  It was good knowing she had lived a full life and she loved to play golf and was very active.  It was hard to swallow that I did not call and did not really feel the emotion of that loss until right now, when I walked into the house and saw the card laying on the table on top of the envelope that has her number written on it.  My heart is torn, but I am at peace in knowing she is truly free and in Jesus’ embrace.  I want to slow down in my life and be deliberate about God being first in my life and allowing that to guide my discernment in all of my relationships.  I want to be strong and not afraid or be “too busy” to call someone and hear their voice and let them hear mine.  It is a very good and convicting lesson learned.  I pray that my faith and obedience to God will be a fraction of what Aunt Jo’s was.

May 23-Mourning and Celebration

Well today is officially a very sucky day.. God is helping me through it, but today is the day my mom passed away 3 years ago. I cannot believe how fast time flies, it feels as if only yesterday she was calling me to tell me that she made some food for me, in her cute Trinidadian accent, and I should come for dinner, but if I can’t stay still come by an pick it up..lol..  She always wanted to see me and hear my voice.  I miss her so very much, but life goes on and she is with Jesus. My sister and Dad have had a rough day also, so keep them in your prayers, especially my Dad he was with her everyday and every step of the way the last 4 years of her life. We understand she is at peace and rejoicing with the  Lamb, I am so thankful for a God that never gives up on his Beloved even though sometimes we slip and give up on ourselves. Amen to an Almighty Powerful and Loving God…

Finality

I was on my way back from a weekend trip to Special Olympics Summer Games.  Here I am sitting on a charter bus in front of two people I am co-volunteers with.  They are also teachers and have been teaching for a very long time.  There discussion on the bus on the way home was about family and getting old and death.  I want to tell you how sad it was to hear how FINAL they made this life to be.  They spoke of all the heart ache and grieving that they have encountered in their life with the loss of family members.  It wasn’t the topic that was sad it was the finality they spoke with about life.  It just seems so apparent that when you passed it was over.  There was no hope in their voice that they would one day see the people they lost ever again.  I have heard people speak about this before but not in the sense that they felt their lives would end the same way.  They spoke of nursing homes and brought up their stories of losing their parents.  It’s hard to swallow that this life is it.  I mean God is so obvious and from every standpoint physically, literally, spiritually, emotionally and scientifically.  How can you live this life and feel that this is all you get.  We must have our hope in Heaven and faith that what we believe in is true.  There is finality in our world and in our lives, however, the ultimate end we think about as Christians is in fact a most beautiful beginning.  I will be praying for my two friends, in the hope that they will get to know Jesus.  I believe this was one of the worst feelings I have had in listening to people speak about getting older.  I love, as a Christian, that my trust is in a True and very Real God and my faith allows me to imagine what it will be like to first, be in Jesus’ embrace and second to see and hug the ones I have lost..  Christian Finality ended on the cross, we have only new beginnings and new births to look forward to as long as we are ready to surrender our beliefs and trust in His!
